2009 Junior Sailing Program American Sailing Association Certified The Stillwater Yacht Club has for decades been developing Sailors and passing on the skills necessary for enjoying a lifetime of this most beautiful pastime. Stillwater Cove and Carmel Bay offer ideal summer conditions. The Junior Sailing Program is designed for boys and girls, ages 8-16. Each weeklong session begins on Monday and ends on Friday. Class meets from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM on the Jenkins Pier, Stillwater Cove. Participants should be dressed and ready to sail. Depending on wind and weather, "on-water-time" is emphasized, rather than dry land training. A student/instructor ratio never exceeding 8:1 assures individual attention. Our first session begins on June 22, 2009. Tuition for the week is $225.00 and all ability levels are welcomed on a first come, first serve basis. A non-refundable, payment-in-full reserves space. Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club's three-time Junior Champion, a 2nd Place finish as crew member sailing from San Francisco to Hawaii. Brian sails for the University of California, Irvine, Varsity Sailing Team and is a Level 1, U.S. Sailing Certified Instructor, as well as holding American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certifications. The SYC requires that participants pass a "salt-water" swim test on the first day of class and wear their own "shorty" wetsuit while on the water. All students will be provided and are required to wear a life jacket. Parents are required to sign "a permission to participate" waiver stating their children are in good health and release the SYC from liability.
